Description

Kalijai Temple is situated on an island in Chilika Lake and is believed to be the dwelling place of Goddess Kalijai. The goddess is actually a form of Kali, the origin and the first of the ten Mahavidyas in Hindu tradition. She is deeply revered by the local community, and her presence is celebrated in local folklore and legends. The island is a popular destination for both pilgrims and tourists. Every January, a grand fair is held during the Makar Sankranti festival.
